Plant power*

Jack in the Bush, also referred to by various other names including "Siam weed," "Christmas bush," "Devil weed," and "Bitterbush," is native shrub to the Americas; some consider it a weed, but traditional Jamaican and Caribbean medicine recognizes it for a myriad of health benefits. Employed topically, this plant is used as an anti-inflammatory agent for skin issues and joint pain, as well as for wound healing. The tea, traditionally has been used to alleviate respiratory problems like coughs and asthma due to its expectorant properties. With claims of antimicrobial and anti-parasitic effects, it has been employed to combat infections both internally and externally. Additionally, it has been attributed with digestive relief, fever reduction, pain management, and even potential benefits for diabetes and allergies.

Taste

Herbaceous and grassy notes, with an earthy undertone and a subtle hint of natural sweetness; often accompanied by a mild bitterness that stems from its bioactive components. Some may detect a mild astringency, lending a gentle drying sensation to the mouth. To counter the bitterness, natural sweeteners (honey, agave syrup, or maple syrup) can be incorporated.
